Yes, it happened on April Fool's Day, but the suicide of Christian Death leader Rozz Williams was no joke to his obsessive followers both in Los Angeles and around the globe. This Monday marks 15 years since the L.A. death-rock icon hanged himself and, considering the date and the singer's proclivities toward morbidity, gloom and doom, many suspected — or hoped — that Williams' death was a hoax. Alas, it was not.
But with the Goth look and sound more popular than ever, Williams' legacy is thriving with a new legion of fans. On Monday, Lethal Amounts honors the performer's memory, along with dark dance party Release the Bats & R.I.P. Productions, with a fan-art tribute exhibit and gathering. The first L.A. screening of the Nico B film 1334, shown back-to-back with its predecessor, the cult classic PIG, kicks off the black celebration early; Williams' former bandmate Rikk Agnew will perform, followed by DJs spinning till an hour before midnight.
