The co-executive producer of NBC TV series Parks and Recreation was found dead in a Loz Feliz home yesterday, police said.
Harris Wittels, 30, was discovered by his assistant, Los Angeles Police Officer Rosario Herrera told us. It's suspected that he might have overdosed on drugs, she said, but the exact cause of death would be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner.
It usually takes weeks for toxicology tests to confirm if drugs were involved in someone's death.
Officers were sent to the 2200 block of North Hobart Avenue in Los Feliz about noon yesterday, according to Herrera. “It looks like his assistant found him in his residence,” she said.
Wittels is from Houston and came to L.A. to work as a comedian. He joined the Upright Citizens Brigade comedy troupe before moving to television production. Parks and Recreation began its seventh and final season last month.
Friends and fans took to Wittels' Facebook page overnight to write tributes to the young man. They called him a “free spirit,” “talented” and “one in a million.”
