Summer is…sniffle, sniffle… just about over, and it's time to move the skimpy sundresses and flip-flops to the back of the closet. On second thought, we have two more weekends (what else would a stylish gal wear to the Sunset Junction Street Fest and the Labor Day Weekend pools parties coming up? Flip and flutter away til then, and if weather permits, longer. This is sunny Cali after all.

Still the catalogs and fashion mags that have been clogging our mailbox lately have moved on, and so most definitely, have the stores. We did a li'l mall hop yesterday (Glendale Galleria and that Grove-ish monstrosity called The Americana) and it was a veritable sweater and jeans fest. Also prevalant: skinny colored jeans and flared pants, knit babydoll tops, and flats- all of it with a preppy flair. The biggest trend we noted this Fall, though?

Vests, vests and more vests! Denim, tweed, and cotton; cropped, ornate or simple- the vest is the best buy this season if you're looking for something new to jazz up old pieces. Layering it over dresses, shirts, and even funky printed t-shirts not only adds a fresh layer, it hides figure flaws. Genius!

Which brings us to our OUTFIT OF THE WEEK. We shot this vivacious chica singing along to the sassy song-age of Katy Perry at Six Flags Magic Mountain last Saturday, and we dug her vibrant “Scary Kids Scaring Kids” tee and the basic grey vest worn over it. It looks casual, comfortable and cool, and we predict the plucky pairing will be to Fall 2008, what the hoodie-under-blazer combo was last year, i.e. we'll be sick of it in a couple months. Even so, we're liking the less loose, rib-cage hugging styles we saw in the mall (so Bianca Jagger) and we'll definitley be in-vesting in a couple. Sorry…
