Hmm. Coming from Amsterdam, eh? Maybe we better take a closer look at those suitcases. That was the case at LAX, and authorities said they busted a 28-year-old U.S. citizen returning from the Dutch city.

They allege he had nearly 9 pounds of opium in two bags. It's the second opium bust at LAX that we know of this month.

(Huh. Is heroin cool again? What's the deal?). Anyway …

The seizure happened at Terminal 2 Friday but was only announced today, said Lee Harty of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Eh, yeah, the 28-year-old dude from Amsterdam was sent to secondary inspection.

“During the exam, two of the passenger's suitcases felt unusually heavy when empty,'' Harty said. “An X-ray of the suitcases revealed anomalies. Further probing and dismantling revealed a total of five packages hidden within the linings. All packages were tightly wrapped in carbon paper and cellophane. The contents inside of the packages tested positive for opium.”

The last opium bust happened Jan. 13. It involved a seizure of 4.6 pounds from a passenger arriving from London who allegedly had a false-bottom bag.
