Tyler King, the owner of Coffee Commissary in West Hollywood, has been busy: Not only is he putting the finishing touches on a Commissary outpost at Siren Studios — a latte art throwdown will be held there on July 11, if you're into that sort of thing — but he's also working on opening a third location in Burbank. This would be very, very happy news for anyone who works in any one of many, many nearby studios, or anyone who may have the occasion to visit one of those studios when, say, your out-of-town visitors insist on attending a live television taping of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The Burbank location of Coffee Commissary is in a space that “has had many incarnations,” King says. Most recently, it was home to Peruvian restaurant Choza Mama; further back, it was one of the first Orange Julius stands in Los Angeles. King is restoring the shop's zigzag roof, wrapping it in stainless steel “to make it reminiscent of those old school soda fountain bars.” And he plans have a La Marzocco Strada espresso machine outfitted in orange cream. Of course.

As for the coffee, King says the shop will focus on what it does best: Namely, great espressos and pourovers, with coffee from various specialty coffee roasters (the West Hollywood location brews coffee from, among a few others, Coava Coffee Roasters and Sightglass Coffee). “That doesn't rule out explorations and possible concoctions that may emerge,” he says, so there may be a few fun additions to the menu yet.

Beyond the coffee bar, there's enough space in the new shop for a full bakery, meaning fresh baked goods from house baker Dolly Cousart. King also is working with the Flat Iron Truck to offer “made to order treats and a small but revolving breakfast-centric menu.”

King expects to open the shop by August.
