As a senior 3D character artist, Omar Hesham has achieved much in the broader field of digital art. He has successfully contributed to world-class entertainment IP, helping clients push boundaries, solve complex problems, and make an impact in media. From 3D character art using 3D modeling and sculpting, Hesham has developed a robust skill set that is valuable in gaming, film, and animation.

Inspiration and a New Direction

Inspired by the sci-fi worlds of Star Wars, the fantastical characters in Pirates of the Caribbean, and video games like Half Life 2, Bioshock, and Prototype, Hesham pursued a career in digital arts. In 2009, he took this dream to a university in Cairo, which was the only one offering 3D software education in Egypt at the time. However, the coursework was not aligned with entertainment media and focused on product design.

“When I found the university insufficient for my needs, I sought education abroad and enrolled in the Academy of Art University in San Francisco,” Hesham shared. “I was able to learn from some of the best artists in the field, and was able to get an internship at a local animation company.”

Growing as an Artist in the United States

While studying in the United States, Hesham gained expertise in character design, digital sculpting and texturing, shading, and lighting, as well as essential software such as ZBrush and Maya. After graduating, one of his teachers helped him land his first digital art position in the animation industry. Hesham went on to work with many companies and clients, even alongside one of the original animators on Pixar’s Toy Story.
