Is The Carmelite Sisters in Concert: Unplugged a warning that we can expect some kah-ray-zee goings on from the Carmelite Sisters of the Southland this weekend? That's when they'll come out of their convents to offer outsiders “a time of uplifting and restoring spirits, a time of hope,” says Super General Mother Regina Marie, OCD (that's the order, not the disorder). The Carmelites are all about music — daily chants, composing, choral singing and instrumental performing — and they'll give us a taste of their many gifts when they perform a program ranging from pristine Gregorian chants to bouncy contemporary Christian, with Grammy-nominated James Drollinger of the Los Angeles Master Chorale, singer/guitarist John Gilb and musical theater vets Ralph and Victoria Mohutsky. Known for their rich, ebullient choral harmonies and instrumentals, the sisters are on a mission to light up our lives, according to Mother Regina Marie, who notes, “The unifying theme for the concert is light. Times are dark and tough right now for so many people. They get discouraged. We want people to know that we're here for them. We're here to help.”
