As announced back in April of last year, Roadhouse LA is a collaboration between Umami Burger's Adam Fleischman and chef Robbie Richter, who was the original pitmaster at Brooklyn's lauded Fatty Cue. The restaurant had its soft opening this past Monday, and opens to the public tonight, Thurs. Feb. 6.
The menu is being billed as international barbecue, with large plates that include dishes like Brooklyn brisket, trapper salmon with sea greens and maple mostarda, and a “head of the day” served with “Texas chainsaw toast” and charred pickle salad. The head might have previously belonged to a pig, lamb or goat.
Small plates include house-cured Hunan bacon with rice noodles and tiger salad, chicken wings, and Punjabi poutine. The cocktails are by Dave Fernie, who previously worked at Pour Vous and Harvard & Stone. He's making house-made sodas, and his drinks are along the lines of something called “Boots With The Fur:” Aviation Gin, White Dog Whiskey, Clear Creek Pear Eau De Vie, spiced apple honey and lemon.
There is also chess pie. Depending on its quality, this might be the most exciting thing about Roadhouse LA: A good chess pie is a thing of great beauty and wonder.
