Last winter, we did 30 Burgers in 30 Days. In the heat of summer, we did 30 Scoops in 30 Days. Today, on National Sandwich Day, we announce the launch of our latest eating marathon: 30 Sandwiches in 30 Days.

This may be our most challenging quest yet. Ice cream is always ice cream — except when it's gelato. Burgers, despite (or maybe because of) their vast popularity, are easily lumped into a clear, rigorously defined category. Sandwiches, however, are a messy bunch, crossing nearly every cultural divide and encompassing infinite varieties. How do you compare a cheesesteak to a cemita? A waffle sandwich to a lobster roll? A banh mi to a choripan? We haven't even mentioned the grilled cheese, pastrami, pambazo, French dip, medianoche, po' boy, torta, bondiola, guajolota, shawarma, pulled pork, porchetta or Italian sub… yet.

Starting next Monday, we'll be eating and writing about (at least) one sandwich per day. To keep ourselves from gaining 200 pounds, we'll also be running or walking one mile for every slice of bread we eat. We are taking suggestions, so if you have a favorite sandwich, shoot us an email or leave a comment below.
