As you’d imagine, this has been the cause of many restless nights, and I’ve been searching for a duvet or comforter that doesn’t leave me feeling like I’m roasting in an oven. Could Dream Valley’s Cooling Comforter be the solution?
The Dream Valley Cooling Comforter is thin and lightweight. If you’re looking for a thick cover to keep you cozy on freezing winter nights, you’d probably be better off with a different option. However, for those in milder or warmer climates, this comforter could be perfect.

The secret lies in its filling, which incorporates Outlast thermo-regulating technology. Essentially, the fabric contains microcapsules filled with a waxy substance. When the temperature rises above a certain threshold, the wax melts and releases excess heat. Once the temperature drops below the threshold, the wax solidifies, slowing heat absorption until the threshold is reached again. This proactive thermal regulation is what sets the comforter apart.
If this sounds like space-age technology, it’s because it is! Outlast technology was originally developed by NASA for spacesuits. Rest assured, it’s perfectly safe for everyday use. Certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100, the comforter is free of harmful chemicals, hypoallergenic, and pet-friendly.
And the technology works. My bedroom’s climate averages 20°C with around 40 percent humidity. Under these conditions, my sleeping temperature noticeably improved with the Dream Valley Cooling Comforter compared to a similarly thin comforter. While it didn’t completely eliminate overheating, I woke up less frequently during the night and felt more rested overall.
Quality also strikes the exterior. Made with high-density yarn, the comforter’s surface feels gentle and glides smoothly across the skin. It’s particularly soothing thanks to its 0.4 Q-MAX rating, a measure of how cool fabric feels on contact, where higher values indicate a cooler feel. Wrapping yourself in this blanket after a hot shower feels like enveloping yourself in a cool sheet of silk.
The comforter also holds up well after washing. The filling didn’t clump, and its thermal-regulating performance remained consistent through multiple machine wash cycles. The exterior fabric showed no signs of tearing or pilling, which is a plus.
Because it’s easy to clean, I didn’t need to use a cover for the comforter. This was great because I loved its calming pastel colors and didn’t want to lose the cooling sensation the fabric provides. That said, Dream Valley does offer a cover made from the same material as the comforter’s exterior, though I didn’t receive one for this review.
The Dream Valley Cooling Comforter certainly helped me feel more relaxed and improved my sleep quality. However, starting at $199.99 for a throw (the smallest size), it’s an investment. That said, the pricing is competitive with alternatives like the Rest Evercool Cooling Comforter, which also starts at $199.99. Additionally, it often goes on sale—for example, it’s discounted up to 60% for Black Friday and will likely be reduced again during the upcoming holiday season.
