Since the ‘80s, Cyndi Lauper has been tirelessly belting out pop-rock anthems such as “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” “Time After Time” and “True Colors,” while putting out a string of respectable albums. As relatively recently as 2016, she released the country-rock gem Detour. Frankly, Lauper is unstoppable. These two shows (she playing on Friday and Saturday), see Lauper performing with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, which makes for a fascinating smash. Lauper’s voice, though wild and husky, will likely sound gorgeous alongside the technical brilliance of trained classical musicians. “Time After Time” in particular could well have fully grown adults weeping into their seats. Cécile McLorin Salvant also plays.

Cyndi Lauper plays with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra (Thomas Wilkins conductor), Cécile McLorin Salvant, The Aaron Diehl Trio and the Country School Choir at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13 at the Hollywood Bowl.
