On June 29, around 3 p.m., LAPD's Valley Traffic Division officers responded to a traffic collision on Sepulveda Boulevard, south of Mayall Street. The officers found an overturned Chevrolet Astro van. The van contained the driver, Juan Garcia, 28, his girlfriend and four young children who were riding without seat belts in the back. Garcia's 7-year-old daughter was admitted to the hospital with a serious head injury. Two other children sustained minor injuries. However, Jesus Hernandez, 10, was ejected from the van and died of his injuries at a local hospital 8 days later.

The other driver, Armando Anaya, 50, was later picked up by police at his home in North Hills. Both Garcia and Anaya, were arrested and booked for assault with a deadly weapon — a vehicle. Anyone with information should contact Mission Detectives at (818) 838-9810.
