Exposure to culture in early childhood can shape a person’s palate and perspective. For Mou Dasgupta, that influence began in the foothills of Darjeeling, India, where the art of brewing tea was part of the daily rhythm. In her home, tea translates to hospitality, connection, and care. Those early impressions would follow her through continents, careers, and personal transformations, ultimately inspiring her to found Brook37, a brand that merges heritage and design to reimagine how tea is experienced.
Dasgupta’s story begins in a household where her father, a professor with an appreciation for specialty leaves, and her mother, a teacher devoted to ritual and craft, shaped her understanding of patience and presentation. Tea accompanied storytelling and celebration, moments that taught her that elegance lies in intention.
That same sense of purpose and grace would later guide her through a dynamic journey across disciplines and continents. Dasgupta pursued degrees in Physics and Computer Science before embarking on a multifaceted journey that blended personal growth with professional ambition.
Along the way, she embraced motherhood and built a distinguished global career in finance. Her leadership in the corporate world involved guiding diverse teams and driving strategic initiatives across international markets. Committed to fostering inclusion, she also championed women’s advancement through mentorship and professional development programs.

“I’ve lived across continents, in countless cities and homes,” she says. “Adaptability became my strength. Every place offered lessons about people and about myself.” That adaptability later fueled a decision to trade corporate life for something closer to her roots.
After two decades in boardrooms, she stepped away to build something personal and purposeful. “When I decided to start my own brand, I realized the importance of creating space for new ideas,” Dasgupta shares. “So I built a table that reflected my values and welcomed others who shared the vision.”
That vision became Brook37, a brand that seeks to bring craftsmanship and consciousness to premium tea. “Tea is a language of place,” she says. “When you taste it, you are invited into a landscape, into someone’s labor and care. My job is to bring that place into the cup with integrity.”
Her approach to blend development mirrors the meticulousness of her former corporate projects, only now the focus is sensory instead of financial. The new blends typically undergo months of refinement and community testing before release. Brook37’s new chai blend recently went through multiple iterations to achieve an authentic body and spice balance in a convenient teabag form. Enthusiasts can also look forward to an upcoming winter infusion that combines citrus and clove in an homage to festive gatherings. “We don’t create for novelty,” she says. “Every aroma must earn its place, and every note must have room to breathe.”

As Brook37 began to share its blends with the world, the industry took notice. One of its signature offerings, Moonlight Stroll, has earned recognition in esteemed tea competitions. This includes a Superior Leaf distinction at the Global Tea Championship and multiple honors at the World Tea Expo Beverage Challenge. These accolades reflect the brand’s dedication to refined processing.
Beyond processing, Brook37 takes pride in its design philosophy and focuses on sourcing directly from growers. The brand gives equal attention to presentation and environmental responsibility. Stackable, reusable, and suited for compact spaces, its tins are elegant yet practical. Moreover, the biodegradable pyramid tea bags hold whole-leaf quality, making fine tea accessible without compromising form. Brook37’s teas have even been featured in gift bags given to Oscar nominees.
“As a mother of three, I feel an obligation to leave a cleaner world for the next generation,” Dasgupta explains. “It was non-negotiable for me that Brook37 would be responsible from day one.” It’s also worth noting that the brand aligns with like-minded organizations that strive to make a meaningful impact, supporting efforts to reduce environmental footprints and promote housing and job training for families working toward stability.
This sense of responsibility extends into how Dasgupta leads. Her leadership style reflects a thoughtful balance of discipline and empathy, moving fluidly between creative intuition and analytical precision. “I built my career despite adversity,” she says. “Now I build a brand that celebrates resilience and refinement in equal measure.” That philosophy is evident in the company’s culture, where a predominantly women-led workforce underscores Brook37’s dedication to empowerment and inclusive excellence.
Through Brook37, Mou Dasgupta has reimagined a timeless ritual for a modern audience. As the brand prepares to expand into international markets, including Europe and the Middle East, it remains anchored in the values that shaped its foundation: quality, transparency, and deep respect for both people and the planet. Dasgupta says, “We grow by listening to the land, to our farmers, and to those who drink our tea.”
