The 65-year-old chief operating officer of music website Napster was killed when a sheriff's patrol car collided with the bicycle he was riding in Calabasas yesterday.

Coroner's officials ID'd the rider as Milton Olin, who is listed not only as the COO of Napster but also as a former A&M Records executive, the founder of his own law business, and a senior counsel at powerhouse L.A. firm Manatt Phelps & Phillips:

In a statement, cops said the bicyclist was peddling east in the 22000 block of Mulholland Highway when the collision with the sheriff's cruiser happened about 1:05 p.m. yesterday.

The car was going in the same direction, deputies said. Authorities at the scene told CBS Los Angeles that the bicyclist was in the bike lane when he was struck.

“We're obviously very sad that something like this has happened,” a sheriff's official told the station.

The rider hit the cop car's windshield, and the deputy inside had to be treated for lacerations and glass in his eyes, the official said.

Footage of the scene showed a bike helmet and shoe on the road.

The sheriff's department was investigating. Witnesses were asked to call detectives at (818) 878-1808.
