Matthew Kenney's move south from Santa Monica begins in earnest tomorrow, June 4, when Plant Food and Wine opens its doors. This new flagship restaurant for the vegan lifestyle guru was announced in January, before the news came that M.A.K.E., his raw/vegan restaurant in Santa Monica, would close. Another raw/vegan concept from Kenney and Ilan Dei, founder of Ilan Dei Studio, will open later this year.
Chef Scott Winegard will run the kitchen at Plant Food and Wine, which will be vegan and will include cooked and raw foods. The menu of small and large plates offers dishes such as zucchini tagliatelle with sweet corn and sunflower seed romesco, and Haas avocado with watermelon radish and sun-dried olives. A nine-course tasting menu will be available for $75 per person.
The 65-seat restaurant has both indoor and outdoor spaces. Inside, the decor is built around the French oak floors, reclaimed stone and a fireplace. Outdoors, olive and fig trees provide a canopy for garden dining.
Plant Food and Wine will be open daily for lunch and dinner, as well as brunch on Saturdays and Sundays.
