Anaheim becomes a must-visit for comic book fans as the Muzeo Museum & Cultural Center unveils Marvelocity: The Art of Alex Ross on Friday, May 16, in the main gallery. 

Celebrated for blending fantasy with realism, Ross is one of the most respected comic book artists in the world. The exhibition will showcase more than  50 original pieces from his landmark book, Marvelocity, highlighting his signature style – a fusion of Norman Rockwell’s Americana and Jack Kirby’s imagination. On opening day, Muzeo will be hosting an opening reception where visitors can experience the exhibition for free,  learn more, and register at Muzeo.org/events. 

And speaking of Kirby, scoot up the 405 to the  Skirball Cultural Center and dive into the six-decade career of the legendary comic book artist responsible for Captain America, The Fantastic Four,  The Avenger, The X-Men, The Black Panther,  The Incredible Hulk and others (1917–1994) The Heroes and Humanity exhibition goes beyond the page, featuring original comic illustrations, fine art, and commercial art, many on view for the first time. 

Plus: James Tynion IV will celebrate the first installment of his Image Comics series, Exquisite Corpses, on Friday, May 16, at Revenge Of, coming out this week. The event will be Halloween-themed, since the series takes place on Halloween, and will feature signings and more.

In Exquisite Corpses, Tynion continues to play literary gamemaster in a story that’s like if Battle Royale met Fortnite (and he is accompanied by a dozen notable horror creators on the title). This also marks the first major release from Tynion’s Tiny Onion production house. 

Tynion will be joined at the event by co-creator, artist Michael Walsh (Universal Monsters: Frankenstein, Magic the Gathering cards) and contributing creators Pornsak Pichetshote (The Good Asian,) Che Grayson (Dark Spaces: Good Deeds) and comic creators Tyler Boss (You’ll Do Bad Things), Jordie Bellaire (Birds of Prey), Adam Gorham (Hellhunters), and Becca Carey (Absolute Wonder Woman). 

Opening on Friday, May 23, at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, Barbie to Anna Karenina: The Cinematic Worlds of Sarah Greenwood and Katie Spencer invites visitors into the imaginative worlds of one of today’s most celebrated production design teams. The immersive exhibition explores how Greenwood and Spencer brought stories to life through richly detailed sets that reflect time, place, and character, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the artistry that shaped some of cinema’s most memorable visuals. Celebrate the opening with a special program on May 23  of Greta Gerwig’s Oscar®-nominated Barbie.
