Four Manhattan Beach police officers have been placed on leave as investigators probe an alleged cover-up of an alcohol-related crash.

The officers failed to take a report after learning that the car involved in the crash was registered to a fellow Manhattan Beach cop, the Daily Breeze reports.

In a statement, Chief Rod Uyeda said he immediately had grave concerns about the response to the crash, which happened on Jan. 31. He asked the Sheriff's Department to do an independent investigation. But no information was released to the public until the Daily Breeze started asking questions yesterday.

The department has refused to name the officer involved in the crash, or the officers who allegedly covered it up.

The Breeze notes that last fall, a Torrance police officer also fled the scene of an alcohol-related crash, and was not prosecuted.
