A man was fatally shot near Hollywood Boulevard just as club-goers hit the streets after last call yesterday, police said.

The attack happened in front of shocked revelers at the end of a spring Saturday night in Hollywood, with some reports indicating the violence was the result of an altercation inside nearby Supperclub.

One witness tweeted about the attack, saying, …
” … So freaked out right now after seeing this. He took two bullet shots to the chest.”

The LAPD says it happened about 1:58 a.m. Sunday at Hollywood Boulevard and Las Palmas Avenue.

The victim, identified only as a 38-year-old man, was taken to a hospital, “where he died a short time later from his injuries,” the department said in a statement released last night.

ABC Los Angeles reported that security video from a nearby business showed the victim walking south on Las Palmas and up to a black, four-door sedan that had stopped near the corner at Hollywood Boulevard.

The victim allegedly punched someone in the car, and someone inside that vehicle allegedly opened fire, according to the station's reading of the video.
Detectives told reporters that the victim and the suspects in the car were affiliated with rival gangs.

Police said there were plenty of witnesses at that time because several nearby clubs were letting out. Anyone with info was asked to call detectives at 213-382-9470.

[Added at 12:46 p.m.]: The coroner's office told L.A. Weekly this afternoon that the victim is 38-year-old Keon Dontrell Collins of Inglewood. An autopsy has not yet been performed.
