So, you know, the cat's out of the bag on whether or not M.I.A.'s one-time lover and longtime producer Diplo has relocated to Los Angeles.
And as Pitchfork and others have reported, that scorned pussy (sticking with the metaphor here, folks) is now taking shots at a certain tigress.
But if Diplo's intentional in-town proximity to a “turd”-dropping M.I.A. seems at odds with his attitude toward the truffle-Tamil, think again.
As evidenced by the headline above, she's one of the marquee-name guests on dude's new EP as (in partnership with producer Switch) Major Lazer.
The Lazers Never Die EP is due out July 20, only three days after Switch, M.I.A. and a few friends play the HARD LA festival at the state park downtown.
The new Major Lazer release is a partnership between Diplo's own Mad Decent imprint, Downtown Records and Interscope.
M.I.A. guests on “Sound of Siren,” while Thom York and Portuguese dance crew Buraka Som Sistema remix “Jump Up” and “Bruk Out,” respectively. Those last two songs originally appeared on the duo's 2009 debut full-length, Guns Don't Kill People, Lazers Do.
Kingston, Jamaica's Tuff Gong studios apparently had something to do with the recording of the EP, but the press release is a bit vague on this point:
The product of ceaseless global touring and countless hours at the infamous Tuff Gong studios in Kingston, Jamaica, Lazers Never Die looks beyond the dancehall riddims of their debut and focuses on an authentic, instrument-driven dancehall approach.
You've seen the (always) awesome album art, now feast your eyes on the guest-list:
Lazers Never Die:
1. “Sound of Siren” (ft. M.I.A. and Busy Signal)
2. “Good Enough” (ft. Collie Buddz and Lindi Ortega)
3. “Bruk Out” (Buraka Som Sistema mix)
4. “Can't Stop Now” (K.L.A.M. remix ft. Miss Banks)
5. “Jump Up” (Thom Yorke remix)
Major Lazer (both Switch and Diplo) will at August 7's official HARD Summer Music Festival, a different event than the HARD LA fest, though both take place at the Los Angeles State Historic Park on Spring Street.
