Ludo Lefebvre is opening a fried chicken stand at Staples Center. The stand, called LudoBird, will serve roughly the same menu as Lefebvre's LudoTruck, with a few tweaks.

“The menu will be similar to that one the LudoTruck, but not the same, Krissy Lefebvre, Ludo's wife and business partner explains. “We will feature both a white meat and dark meat of the Provençal chicken (original recipe) that can be ordered as just chicken or on a sandwich. We will also have the garlic honey wings. There will be house-made potato chips and a new potato salad. In addition, Ludo has created a sweet and salty ice cream sandwich, which is a brioche bun with homemade caramel and ice cream. Finalizing the ice cream flavor later today, actually. Of course we had to keep the honey lavender biscuit on the menu.”

This is the first time Staples Center has had a chef-run counter. There's plenty to eat at the arena, but all of it is very corporate: California Pizza Kitchen, Wetzel's Pretzels, McDonald's, etc. It's nice to see some local culinary talent moving in to represent L.A. at one of our most important venues.

Krissy explains how the stand came about: “I started my legal career in-house at Staples Center (during the construction of it) so we have a long-standing relationship with the management over there. Ludo and I have some amazing memories from the building; we've been there for a Lakers NBA Championship, Los Angeles Kings Stanley Cup Victory and countless Grammy Awards and concerts. It's a special place for us. When Lee Zeidman, senior vice president and general manager, asked us if we wanted to put a Ludo fried chicken concept into the building, we were so honored. It's been a long-time goal/dream of Ludo's to have a brick-and-mortar fried chicken 'fast good' restaurant and this felt like the right time and the right place. Staples Center is home to the greatest events to happen in this city, and we could not have asked for a better venue for LudoBird.”

The Lefebvres have brought on Dennis Suh, who has worked with them on LudoTruck for more than two years, to oversee the project.

LudoBird will be open to the public beginning this weekend, at the Depeche Mode concert on Sunday.
