Living in Fear: Lee Ving and his politically incorrect troupe of rabble rousers Fear play two “Fuck Christmas — Have a Beer with Fear” shows in Long Beach, and they’ve assembled two great bills. N8NOFACE is there on Thursday, as are Penalty Kill and Stormhouse. On Friday, we get Niis, the Mainliners and Upper Downer. Sweet!
It’s been nine years since Fear rerecorded their classic debut The Record album is The Fear Record. And 22 years since their last album of brand new material — 2000’s American Beer. Yet Lee Ving and crew have consistently gotten out there and performed live. Because we all love “I Love Livin’ in the City” and “I Don’t Care About You.”
Back in March 2018, when we spoke to Ving prior to Fear’s appearance at the MusINK festival, he told us: “I always have an eye and ear to the ground for the music here in our hometown, and I think that it’s made measurable progress since the old days when it was not welcome everywhere, and shows of that nature were harder to place,” Ving says. “But it’s come full circle, and that music in general is part of the way that punk rock is much more accepted than it used to be. It was an item of its own, and I think it’s absolutely more mainstream now, and popular among lots and lots of people. It’s good for everybody.”
Living in Fear: The event takes place at 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 22 and Friday, December 23 at Alex’s Bar.
