The Dude lives on! 20 years after the film The Big Lebowski was released, the fandom surrounding everyone's favorite stoner-deadbeat-bowler-detective is as strong as ever. Lebowski Fest, held at the Wiltern on Friday, May 25, drew fans dressed as the title character (portrayed by Jeff Bridges) as well as Walter (John Goodman), Maude (Julianne Moore) and other characters. The Kyle Gass Band, which also dressed for the occasion, once again performed an appropriately themed cross-section of tunes, including some CCR, Steely Dan and Eagles; the latter were gleefully booed by the crowd, in the spirit of the Dude, who exclaims to a cab driver, “I had a rough night, and I hate the fuckin' Eagles, man!”
Speaking of that cab driver, the actor who played him, Ajgie Kirkland, was in attendance (along with a handful of other supporting members of the cast) to sign autographs and soak up the White Russian– and marijuana-infused vibe before attendees packed the auditorium for The Kyle Gass Band's performance and a screening of The Big Lebowski. The festival continued the following day at the Fountain Bowl in Fountain Valley.
