A really, really good crust is the foundation to any worthy pie endeavor without which, well, you might as well be having fruit compote — or depending on your preferred pie filling, pudding. Fortunately, for those of us who can't seem to get a crust (whether butter, vegetable shortening or lard-based) right, Evan Kleiman, host of KCRW's Good Food and connoisseur of all things pie, is sharing her tips through a video series on Craftsy.

The high definition videos, of which there are seven, cover all the steps, from making a dough to types of thickeners to how to make her ultimate apple pie. Even better, the class is 25% off via this link, you can watch the videos at your leisure, and the classes never expire.

Pie novices would do well to look to Kleiman for lessons on baking pies. In July 2009, Kleiman launched her Pie-a-Die project on her blog for KCRW. Each day, she would make a pie and write about the experience. Originally intended as a summer project, it ended up lasting through the fall until Thanksgiving. And even those who consider themselves experienced in the art of pie can pick up a tip or two for their repetoire.
