Would you cut off medical benefits for an employee who was already depending on them because she's 6-months pregnant?

Maybe it's a little too late to call Grinch on this particular employer, but the organization Good Jobs LA is bringing attention to the plight of mom-to-be Jennifer Mendoza and fellow employees of passenger services company Aviation Safeguards, which it says will dump the employment contracts — and health-care benefits — of its LAX workers Feb. 1.

Good Jobs LA, a grassroots group that sympathizes with labor unions and the Occupy movement, says that the company's clients at LAX include Virgin Atlantic, United, Continental, Air France and Alaska Airlines.

Those carriers have seen more than $2.5 billion in profits collectively last year, according to the organization.

Aviation Safeguards employs sky caps, wheel chair assistants and security personnel. Mendoza works as a dispatcher who sends wheel chair assistants to travelers who need them.

It seems like the contract cut-off would allow the company to employ folks without the benefits they enjoyed before. It doesn't appear that the employees are being laid off wholesale, but we'll be watching.
