Los Angeles is the epicenter of the porn industry, the home of the Playboy and Hustler empires, and the town where the most people think they're really, really good looking.
However, L.A. is not the kinkiest city in America.
The folks at kink.com's Kink University (“higher education for erotic exploration”) analyzed the “kink-identified population, the size of the [kink] population relative to the city's size, the number of resources available for kink-identified people, and the adult entertainment purchases in each city.”
Despite having “more dungeons and play spaces than any other city” and “the third highest total population of self-identified kinksters,” Los Angeles ranked a measly sixth on the institution's “10 Kinkiest Cities in the United States 2015” list.
We'd beg to differ. There's more latex, nipple rings and novelty handcuffs per capita here than anywhere! Maybe.
But Kink University's evaluation had us questioning the quality of education at this school.
The “10 Kinkiest Cities in the United States 2015” description for Los Angeles says we have “relatively cheap rents and municipal anonymity.”
Try some of the highest rents in the nation, and the most unaffordable housing when compared to income levels. Municipal anonymity? The business community would probably beg to differ.
But it's Kink's number one pick that really had us scratching our heads: Portland. San Francisco came in second place. New York took third. Mike Stabile, spokesman for Bay Area-based Kink:
San Francisco is usually seen as the center of kink life in the United States, but rising housing costs resulting from the tech boom seem to have pushed the community northward.
Guess lumberjack beards and beer farts are really kinky now.
