We wish they all could be California girls. And, yes, L.A. woman, you're my woman. All that.
But it turns out that Los Angeles men aren't all that bad. Once you get past the cholos, musicians, pretty boys, stoners, unemployed playboys and yoga creeps, there's a man for you out there somewhere.
The personal finance website NerdWallet revealed ahead of Valentine's Day that L.A. made the top 10 on its list of “top 20 best cities for single women.” The site looked at American cities' unmarried populations, “dating affordability,” including restaurant prices, and social scenes.
Los Angeles ranked an even 10 for the single ladies. The key stats from NerdWallet:
There are nearly 95 unmarried men per 100 unmarried women here. The cost of an average date is $78.40. Median income is said to be $25,597. (It's $27,749 in L.A. County, with median household income at $55,909). Entertainment establishments and restaurants per 1,000 people is a list leading 3.03.
San Francisco took first place in the single women category. Seattle (2), Minneapolis (3), San Diego (4), and Austin rounded out the top 5. Long Beach, considered separately, took seventh.
L.A. made number 16 on the overall list of “top 20 best cities for singles,” NerdWallet found.
Our fraction of unmarried people is about 59 percent, the site found. We're going to guess that dating affordability weighed down our ranking.
While Los Angeles has some of the prettiest people in America, and Hollywood continues to attract eligible singles from across the land, going out and hooking up in this here big city is a wallet buster.
The top 5 includes Boston (1), Washington, D.C. (2), Philadelphia (3), Baltimore (4), and Cleveland (5) — all towns known for their super hot bodies.
Maybe living single in L.A. is worth the cost.
