8 Pronounced Dead after Pickup vs Van Collision near Road 22

MADERA COUNTY, CA (February 27, 2024) – Juvenal Talavera, Hector Orozco and Alfredo Sanchez died Friday morning in a car crash on Avenue 7. The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m., just west of Road 22.

Robert Jerry Kovar reportedly lost control of his pickup truck, crossing into oncoming lanes and colliding head-on with a van occupied by Tavlavera, Orozco, Sanchez, and several others. Emergency responders confirmed Kovar and seven van occupants deceased at the crash site.

The lone survivor, Benito Perez Mundo, suffering major injuries, was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital by paramedics. Identification by Madera County officials revealed some of the deceased victims as 24-year-old Talavera from Kerman, 33-year-old Orozco from Jalisco, and 30-year-old Sanchez from Guerrero, Mexico.

Details about the fatal Avenue 7 head-on collision are currently limited, with no further information released to the public at this time. Additional updates will be provided as they become available.
