Male Pedestrian Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Collision near Palm Avenue

ORANGE, CA (March 14, 2024) – Police arrested Jonathan Lopez late Tuesday after a deadly DUI accident at the 300 block of North Tustin Street. The incident occurred at approximately 11:20 a.m., near Palm Avenue. Police discovered that the driver of a northbound Toyota hit a pedestrian who was crossing the street outside of a designated crosswalk. After the collision, the driver left the scene without providing assistance or informing the authorities. Emergency responders pronounced the male pedestrian dead at the scene approximately 10 minutes later. Shortly afterward, a detective observed the suspect, Jonathan Lopez, aged 31 and from Orange, just north of Glassell Street at Katella Avenue. The vehicle he was driving displayed significant damage to its front end. Consequently, authorities arrested Lopez on charges of felony DUI, hit-and-run, and vehicular manslaughter. Court records show Lopez pleaded guilty to multiple DUI charges last December 2021, September 2015, April 2012, and October 2011. At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway.
