After captivating audiences at film festivals, Isabel’s Garden officially made its mark at the Los Angeles premiere on January 2nd. Held at the Laemmle Royal, the intimate event brought together nearly two hundred fans, cast, crew, and members of the press. The result? Laughter, tears, and a huge applause. The film, which launched on streaming platforms on January 3rd, has already left an indelible mark on audiences as a standout indie drama.

For Kit Rich, writer-director of the film, the North American release on streaming marked the culmination of years of dedication to a story that touches on grief, love, and resilience. “Isabel’s Gardenis a labor of love,” she shares, “And the audience feedback is proof of its ability to connect with people at a deeper level.”

An Iris Tuesday Productions, the company Kit founded along with her husband Manuel Rafael Lozano, Isabel’s Garden explores the intricacies of blended families and personal healing. The story follows Maya (Karen David), an ambitious small-town TV reporter navigating life after the loss of her husband, Diego (Manuel Rafael Lozano). Alongside her journey, viewers meet—Isabel (Gabriela Flores), her 15-year-old stepdaughter, Christina (Valery Ortiz), who is the ex-wife of Diego, Isabel’s mother—and a host of other characters, including Grace (Jayne Taini), each adding depth to a narrative centered on hope and grief.

The film has already garnered critical acclaim, with nine awards and five nominations across prestigious festivals. Among the accolades are Best Narrative Feature at the Cordillera International Film Festival, the Audience Award at the Los Angeles IFS Film Festival, Best Feature Film from the Poppy Jasper International Film Festival, and multiple Best Director awards.

For Kit and Manuel, the journey to this moment was anything but easy. “We were making an independent drama at a time when the world craved escapism,” Manuel reflects. “Between pandemic shutdowns, budget challenges with investors backing out, the SAG strike, and other unexpected obstacles, it felt like the odds were stacked against us. But Kit’s determination never wavered.”

Kit’s transition from celebrity fitness trainer to becoming a writer-director—and even to producer—was a leap of faith fueled by her belief in the story. “Art has its own energy. It’s like raising a child: you have to guide it, nurture it, and sometimes it guides you in return,” she explains. “There were countless moments when I wanted to give up, I do admit, but something about Isabel’s Garden kept pushing forward as if it had a purpose of its own.”

The release on streaming opened doors to a broader audience. Critics have described the film as “A captivating drama” and “Leaves a memorable imprint on its viewers.” For Kit, the release wasn’t just an achievement; it was a validation of years of perseverance.

Now available on both Amazon Prime and AppleTV, Isabel’s Garden continues to resonate with viewers, offering a bittersweet reminder that even in the darkest moments, light and love persist. As for Kit, the film’s success has only deepened her passion for storytelling. “With this project behind me, I feel more inspired than ever,” she says. “I want my next film to carry the same heart, the same emotional depth, but take it even further. The world needs stories that uplift, that make us reflect, and that remind us of our shared humanity. That’s the kind of art I want to create.”

Kit Rich and Manuel Lozano now look ahead to new projects under the Iris Tuesday Productions banner, bringing more honest stories to life and further redefining what independent cinema can achieve.
