Do you crave ice cream and popsicles when you go to the beach? If you don't already, you probably will this summer, which is promising to be a scorcher. To help you out, the Shore Hotel, on Ocean Avenue near the Santa Monica Pier, is hosting a series of ice cream pop-ups.
Starting this Saturday and running some but not all weekends until September, four local ice cream vendors will be popping up at the hotel. The series starts with Sprinkles on June 14-15. Yes, we know Sprinkles is a cupcake shop, but they're rolling out their ice cream cart for the happy event, and will be scooping ice cream flavors such as red velvet, strawberry, triple chocolate and Cap'n Crunch. If that last one sounds weird to you, probably your kids won't think so.
Other vendors coming? Popshop, whose ice pops are vegan and non-dairy and include flavors such as amaretto white peach, avocado-vanilla, bananas Foster, blueberry-lemonade and chocolate-peppermint will bring its cart on Friday and Saturday, July 4 and 5.
On Saturday, July 26, the Coolhaus truck will bring its ice cream sandwiches, with flavors such as Bourbon pecan pie, cookies and cream, Key lime pie, red velvet and root beer float.
The Pedlar's Creamery cart will be there Aug. 9-10 and Aug. 23-24, serving bicycle-churned dairy and non-dairy ice cream treats, including strawberry and banana chip, mint chocolate cookie, candied kumquat, strawberry-basil sorbet and vegan Mexican chocolate.
And finally, the Van Leeuwen ice cream truck will bring its ice cream, including flavors such as currants and cream, pistachio, ginger and Earl Grey, among others, on Sunday, Aug. 31, and Monday, Sept. 1.
As for finding a place on the sand, you're on your own.
