A pair of would-be home invasion robbers posing as police burst into a home just below Dodger Stadium in Angeleno Heights but fled as residents yelled for neighbors to call police.

The attempt in the 900 block of White Knoll Drive happened shortly after 10 p.m. Monday when a man claiming to be a cop knocked on a family's door and said he had information about a vehicle of theirs that had been involved in an accident, according to Los Angeles police.

When a female resident opened a screen door the man and an accomplice burst in and one grabbed her by the throat as her 21-year-old son tried to intervene to no avail, police stated. As other family members screamed, fled and asked neighbors to call 911, the pair took off.

Officers at the scene found a clipboard used by one of the suspects. Police say it indicated the family was targeted, but little else. Investigators believe the clan might have been followed home that night from a restaurant it owns in South Los Angeles.

A black import SUV was used in the crime. Anyone with information about the home invasion was asked to call 213-972-1244 or 800-222-8477.
