There's been much to say recently about what constitutes authentic Mexican food in Los Angeles, and who's bringing it. But perhaps we'll get our answer at next month's Taste of Mexico event, which celebrates Mexico's bicentennial via its cuisine.

Four L.A. restaurants – Frida Mexican Cuisine, Guelaguetza, La Casita Mexicana and La Monarca Bakery – will unite on December 4th to showcase their finest in regional Mexican dishes. The event will feature both unlimited food samplings and beverage tastings including premium tequila and mezcal. Mariachi music sets and dance performances by troupes from Oaxaca and Jalisco will rock the patio outside.

Check out a video made by the organizers featuring commentary by the events' participating chefs and restaurant owners. Most inviting are chefs Jaime M. Del Campo and Ramiro Arvizu of La Casita Mexicana, who are so enthusiastic about their food and about the event itself, it makes us want to hit up their station first.

Sat., Dec. 4 from 5 – 10 p.m. at the Cathedral of Saint Vibiana. Tickets can be purchased at participating restaurants or at thetasteofmexico.org. Proceeds benefit Heal the Bay.
