The line was around the block at 11 a.m. when East LA Comic-Con opened the doors on its inaugural year, and at 3 p.m. the line still stretched around the block. The freshman convention hit capacity within moments of opening, and newcomers had to wait for people to exit before they could go in.
East LA Comic-Con is a convention that's inclusive of the Latino and Latina artists, fans and culture, and it proved what most of us in Los Angeles know: that there is a strong market for comics about and designed by and for people other than young white men. To be blunt, Wondercon is wonderful, but you won't find artist Phobik Art designing the convention's T-shirt. East LA Comic-Con already has already stated there will be a second year and we know that next year's East LA Comic-Con will be epic — just as this year's was
