Two months after shutting down a three-block stretch of Broadway for his “LAoki” party — co-signed by his new BFF, Eric Garcetti — Steve Aoki has released an official “aftermovie” showing highlights from the Scion-sponsored May 16 event. More than 7,000 Aoki fans signed up for information on Mayor Garcetti's Volunteer Corps project to attend the free concert, which featured an Aoki DJ set along with guest appearances by Sherry St. Germain, Moxie and Travis Barker.

The video, which L.A. Weekly is premiering below, shows some behind-the-scenes footage of the concert getting set up, along with some FOMO-inducing clips from Aoki's crowd-pleasing set. “I wanted to do something iconic that gave back to the community,” Aoki says in voice-over at one point, followed by a less PR-friendly but probably more heartfelt exclamation during his DJ set: “We took over the motherfuckin' streets tonight!”

Was there a cake toss? Of course there was a cake toss. They didn't show it in the video for some reason, but Aoki's team was nice enough to send us photos. We're posting the one below because this particular cake recipient looks so damn happy — and because it includes a well-placed bottle of Evian, the aftermovie's official sponsor. Remember, kids, we're still in the midst of a drought. Use Evian to wash that cake off your face!

Steve Aoki's next downtown appearance will be a bit mellower — he'll be at the Last Bookstore on Thursday, July 30, signing copies of his new photography book, Eat Sleep Cake Repeat. Our guess is he won't throw any cake at a book signing, but with Aoki, anything's possible.
