Today is National Girl Scout Cookie Day (it's also apparently National Kite Flying Day, which, given the expected thunderstorm, you may or may not want to celebrate). And if you haven't already ordered your Samoas from the co-worker who sent around his kid's cookie ordering form as if it were a routine piece of inter-office mail, you can easily get your cookie fix via the Girl Scout's Cookie Finder app, available on both iPhone and Android platforms. Because of course there's an app for this.

Finding the cookies is pretty simple: Just plug in your zip code, and you'll see locations of your nearest cookie stand, plus the day and times that a local Girl Scout troop will be there manning the station. In case you need a refresher, the app also includes descriptions of every type of cookie sold by the Girl Scouts, plus gentle reminders that these girls learn valuable life skills during cookie season. Meaning it's almost a community service to buy yourself a box of Thin Mints from your local troop.

If you prefer, you can use the Girl Scout's website to locate your closest cookie sale instead. And while you're there, you might as well check out a fun history of the program, complete with a 1922 recipe for Girl Scout sugar cookies. So long as you basic pantry ingredients, then, everyday can be National Girl Scout Cookie Day.
