Time For Tea: Supreme Court's Decisions Will Have Lasting Impact on LGBTQ Rights

The Supreme Court announced this week they will hear multiple cases concerning civil rights laws and anti-LGBTQ discrimination. These will be heard as part of their October 2019 term, with the decisions being released next year. Two cases revolve around discrimination based on sexual orientation and one around gender identity. Both are significant for the LGBTQ community as the decisions made could have a long-lasting impact on our everyday lives. The fact that the court is currently (and unfairly) stacked with conservative judges obviously doesn't bode well for gay rights, but time will tell....

Time for Tea: The Country's First Openly Gay Presidential Candidate Makes His Bid

South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg made history on Sunday, April 14, when he became the first openly LGBTQ presidential candidate in the United States. "It's time to walk away from the politics of the past, and toward something totally different," he said in his campaign announcement, before kissing his husband, teacher Chasten Buttigieg. Mayor Pete is currently polling third among Democratic voters and, hours after his campaign announcement, had raised over $1 million from supporters....

Underrated P!nk Is Still Missundaztood

P!nk may just be one of the most underrated pop stars around. Sure, she's not some unknown artist forced to play tiny hole-in-the-wall venues, but the show she put on Monday night at Staples Center should put her at the level of the best pop stars in the game right now. While all the buzz and the charts are dominated by the Ariana Grandes, Taylor Swifts, Lady Gagas and Beyoncés, P!nk has continued her show-stopping, Cirque du Soleil–level performances and consistent messaging of embracing your inner freak, just as she's done for the last 19 years....

Time for Tea: Boycotting Sultan of Brunei's Businesses in Beverly Hills and Bel-Air

Last week, the small Asian country of Brunei enacted a penal code where people who have sex with someone of the same gender can be stoned to death. Many other outrageous "punishments" also were instituted. The man behind these insane laws is the dictatorial Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, who may be a religious extremist but hasn't shied away from profiting off the Western, secular world....

Time for Tea: Did Beyonce and Jay-Z Deserve the GLAAD Vanguard Award?

Last week, the 30th annual GLAAD Media Awards, held at the Beverly Hilton, saw Beyoncé and Jay-Z honored with the Vanguard Award for their LGBTQ allyship. Madonna will receive the same award at the East Coast ceremony, taking place in New York City on May 4. Some, even LGBTQ members of the Beyhive, questioned the choice to award the Carters simply for being allies, but Beyoncé's heartfelt speech should win them over....

Time for Tea: Chick-fil-A Is Still a Fail for Gays

Just how good is Chick-fil-A? I couldn't tell you. I've heard the chicken sandwiches and waffle-cut fries are very tasty, but I've never tried them. Like many, I cannot let my hard-earned money go to groups that are trying to work against my best interests. And make no mistake, the fast-food chain does work against the LGBTQ community....
