After a prolonged planning period, California’s latest casino project finally broke ground near State Highway 99. With decades of planning behind it, the historic groundbreaking ceremony finally got the wheels in motion which is great news for the Mono Indians located in the North Fork Rancheria area.
The local economy will benefit from employment opportunities and the increased footfall in the area, with a projected opening date of 2026.

The History of the North Fork Mono Casino & Resort Project
Complicated Californian gambling regulations have resulted in the project taking decades to finally get off the ground. The North Fork Mono Casino and Resort was first proposed in the early 2000s.
To put that into perspective, when this project was first talked about The Sopranos was still in its early seasons, Gladiator was not long released at the movies, and NSYNC, Sisqo, Aaliyah, and Nelly were all riding high in the charts.
A collaborative approach between the Mono Indians and government officials ensured the project could go ahead and the site became eligible for gaming in 2012 after being approved by the Governor (at the time) Jerry Brown and U.S. Secretary of the Interior and under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
Further authorization was granted in 2019 when the tribe was given permission for Class III Gaming to be conducted on the site. This came 3 years before compacts for Class III gaming were denied to the Santa Rancheria Santa Rosa Indian Community and Pomo Indians of Middletown Rancheria.
What Californians Can Expect from the North Fork Mono Casino & Resort Project
The casino is expected to open in 2026 and will generate around 1,000 new jobs as well as stimulate the local economy, and the construction process will also boost employment locally.
The casino project that will see Station Casinos partner with the Mono Indians will see a joint management system that will ensure the project blends high-quality casino management with local heritage.
The 24-hour casino will be located on Avenue 17 and will feature 40 table games and 2,000 state-of-the-art slot machines. Visitors will also have a choice from a 500-seat buffet, 200-seat restaurant, steakhouse, coffee shop, and food court, with an additional five bars to keep patrons refreshed.
The project’s multi-story, 200-room hotel will also boast pool and spa facilities, as well as a 2,000-space parking structure and a further 3,000 surface parking spots. Free valet parking will also be offered to ensure guests enjoy a great overall experience.
It is expected that the project will cost around $400 million and take approximately a year and a half to complete, with locals eager for the completion of the long-awaited entertainment facility.
This expansion for Station Casinos sees the casino giant move outside Nevada and could signal further intentions to develop projects around the country. The North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians will finally be able to realize their dream of economic revitalization through this sustainable development project.
