LAist's Zach Behrens
draws everyone's attention to a new Google Maps traffic feature. Like many mapping and news outfits, Google Maps has a color-coded feature to monitor local freeway speeds. Now, however, GM has launched a program that allows Internet users to get information on the real-time speeds of major surface streets. Finally!

Speaking of traffic information sites, readers of today's L.A. Times' business pages may have noticed a map that shows this week's film-location shoots that will take place around town for movies and commercials. Intended more as an indicator of the film industry's health than a practical guide for neighbors and commuters, the map doesn't detail exactly where the productions are being shot and precisely when. Still, the data, which is derived from Film L.A. Inc., at least provides a very general heads-up.
