When it was announced that producer T Bone Burnett, writer Stephen King and songwriter John Mellencamp had collaborated on a project, it was hard to imagine a creative middle ground for those disparate minds. The resulting “Southern gothic supernatural musical,” Ghost Brothers of Darkland County, took 16 years to complete and is a dark meditation on murder, which reflects the simmering darkness inherent in all three creators’ best work. This show will be a stripped-down rendition of the fully narrated stage production, focusing primarily on Mellencamp’s dusty roots and featuring actors Billy Burke and Gina Gershon mumbling their best menacing drawl.
