Altadena Storm Update

The Altadena Chamber of Commerce, together with the Wells Fargo Foundation, Pasadena City College Small Business Development Center, and Pasadena City College Foundation, will co-host a community block party and ribbon-cutting ceremony for Mariposa Junction, a commercial corridor of five small businesses on Mariposa Street in Altadena. 

The event, called Rising Together: A Grand Reopening Celebration, will take place on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.,  celebrating the street’s official reopening following the devastating Eaton Fires and kicking off the crucial holiday shopping season for impacted businesses. There will be food, drinks, music, and giveaways. After months of repairs and rebuilding, the following business will reopen their doors to the public: 

  • Betsy Restaurant: a locally-sourced eatery owned by Tyler Wells
  • Carciofi Design Paper Boutique & Studio: a luxury paper design studio owned by Caroline Britton
  • McGinty’s Gallery at the End of the World: an art and vintage showroom owned by Ben McGinty
  • Ms. Dragon Print & Copy: a copy and print store owned by Debbie Collins
  • Sidecca: a women’s apparel and accessory store owned by Adriana Molina

The 13th Annual Turkey Trot Los Angeles 5k/10k run walk returns to Downtown L.A. on Thursday, Nov.  27.  More than  7,000 participants dressed as everything from turkeys and pilgrims to pies and mashed potatoes will gather in front of  City Hall to run, jog, and walk through some of the city’s most scenic landmarks. 

The route winds past  Disney Concert Hall, the Broad Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and historic Spring Street. The charity event benefits The Midnight Mission,  helping those experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles. The goal is to raise $100,000 to provide essential services, shelter, and hope to those in need. Registration is now open.

Discovery Cube, Southern California’s popular children’s science museum, is celebrating  Holidays at the Cube,  a seasonal celebration full of family-friendly experiences at both Santa Ana and Sylmar campuses. The event offers endless activities and hands-on fun filled with the sights, smells, and sounds of the season.

Both locations are hosting Southern California’s largest gingerbread competition, Science of Gingerbread.  Starting on Saturday, Nov.  22, through Sunday, Nov.  30, families can submit their wildest gingerbread creations for a chance to be considered as one of the best gingerbread builders in all of Southern California.

The seasonal staple for the Cube, featuring dozens of gingerbread creations —from whimsical houses to intricate scientific-themed structures —crafted by bakers, students, families, and professionals, will be on display from Saturday, Dec. 6, through Sunday, Jan. 4.
