Mayor Eric Garcetti has hired a new spokeswoman. Naomi Seligman, a veteran communications consultant, will replace Yusef Robb as the mayor's communications director. She starts next week.

Seligman currently runs her own consulting business. According to her website, she has worked for a number of liberal clients, including the Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy. Garcetti's wife, Amy Wakeland, was once a member of the group's advisory board. She also serves on the board of Emerge California, an organization that recruits women to run for office.

Seligman brings a lot of Washington, D.C., experience to the mayor's office. She worked for five years as a communications director at Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), a left-leaning watchdog group. While she was there, the group was deeply involved in the Valerie Plame affair, and Seligman led media outreach efforts on Plame's behalf.

She also worked for Media Matters for America and the Violence Policy Center.

In 2009, she moved to L.A. to work for Consumer Watchdog, the consumer advocacy group. She launched her own consulting practice in 2012.
