In the wake of the weekend's downfall of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, at least one pundit is urging an L.A.-based film production company to give cash invested by his son back “to the Libyan people.”

Al-Saadi Gadhafi reportedly threw down $100 million in 2009 to help fund Natural Selection, a production company founded by Matty Beckerman.

He was one of the sons of the dictator said to have been captured by Libyan rebels in their takeover of the country over the weekend. Rabbi Schmuley Boteach, writing in the Huffington Post, says that “blood money” should now go back to its homeland:

And what of Natural Selection, the Los Angeles-based film production fund founded by Matty Beckerman, which accepted a $100 million investment from Gaddafi's son, Al-Saadi Qaddafi. In February of this year Bloomberg News reported that money was being used to bankroll a film called The Ice Man: Confessions of a Mafia Contract Killer, starring Mickey Rourke. The fund was also backing Isolation, a thriller with Susan Sarandon's daughter, Eva Amurri. Will we all be entertained with this blood money or will it be returned to the Libyan people?

Turns out the film enterprise — including a planned vehicle for Mickey Rourke — has been stuck in the mud as a result of the turmoil in Libya anyway.

But still, the rabbi has a point.
