As previously reported, last weekend's FYF Fest was a success — except for one pretty egregious scheduling error: festival organizers had apparently forgotten to figure out what to do with the thousands of attendees who'd purchased tickets in advance via TicketWeb. The line of pre-paid customers waiting to be confirmed stretched nearly a quarter of a mile back to the Chinatown Gold Line stop, where it curled around the base and folded back on itself like an unlucky dragon. Here's the photo we ran on Monday, taken at 4 p.m. (the gate was supposed to have opened at 1).
Well, patient as those festivalgoers were, their pain has not gone unnoticed by FYF founder Sean Carlson, who by Wednesday morning had sent not only a note of apology, but the promise of reparations, to all victims of the preorder pileup.
In the letter, he admits that the will call line “ended up being more backlogged than I ever could have imagined,” adding that “those long waits are something that will never happen again at the FYF Fest.” What's more, he inducts all recipients of the email into the “FYF Fest Members Club,” an exclusive group now set to receive gifts throughout the year, including T-shirts, tote bags, posters, records and future discounts on event pre-sales.
Good on ya, Sean Carlson. Read the full apology below.
An important update regarding your TicketWeb order #[…]
The reason that you are receiving this message is because you purchased a ticket in advance for the FYF Fest through ticketweb.com and were on the will call list which ended up being more backlogged than I ever could have imagined. I am very sorry to those that had to deal with the massive line for the first few hours of the event. Those long waits are something that will never happen again at the FYF Fest.
There is nothing more important to us than the comfort of concert goers to our festival, and so I want to make this up to each of you. We have set up FYF Fest Members Club. Think the Misfits Fiend club in the 81' but not nearly as cool, but close. I want to show you (the attendee) how much we (the FYF Fest) care about you. Throughout the year, you will receive packages filled with all sorts of goods from tshirts, tote bags, posters, records, etc, along with information about discounted pre-sale tickets, etc.
Send an email to email@example.com with “Members Club” in the subject and include your full name, address, birthday and email. You'll be receiving a present in the near future.
Please forward this email to any of your friends that you went to the fest with and if you have any questions please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org
I hope all is well with each of you and I hope to hear from you soon,
Founder of the FYF Fest
