Following L.A. County's move to grade food trucks the same way restaurants receive letters (A through C, depending on cleanliness), the L.A. City Council jumped on that bandwagon Wednesday.

It voted to draw up a law that would require food trucks to obtain special city permits. The details haven't been worked out yet, but some of the regulations therein could include adhering to special parking rules and receiving county-like grades.

It's clear some of the council people are carrying water for restaurants fed up with the cheaper (and in some cases tastier) curbside competition.

“It is a work in progress, but overall, (I want to see) food trucksrespecting the brick-and-mortar restaurants, number one; and that parking spaces they use are legitimate spaces,'' Westside Councilman Bill Rosendahl said.

County rules require the trucks to have access to legit restrooms where workers can go and wash up.
