Local party-thrower and events curator ArtDontSleep recently organized an impromptu jam session between several beat music masters and acoustic instrumentalists at Echo Park's Knobworld recording studio.

The guest of honor was Flying Lotus, a.k.a. Steven Ellison, on the occasion of his birthday, and the additional talent wrangled included Shafiq Husayn, The Gaslamp Killer, Computer Jay, Matthewdavid, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Exile, and a handful of others.

Matthewdavid told West Coast Sound, “One side of the room was electronic folk, and the other was the live-instrument players, and not everyone knew one another. I was really impressed by everyone's demeanor, acceptance, and respect for one another.”

He also offered this more succinct description of the experience: “Surrealism, structured to bug-out and back.” Download a 30-minute track from this momentous bug-out below.
