Here’s a first look at the two new sister concepts opening this week on the beach in Washington Square — where the Venice Terrace and Pizza by the Slice once lived near the Venice Pier — in a much-needed revival of the corner spot.

The Pier House is an upscale fish house and bar which opens today with a menu from executive chef Terry Kim, previously with Otium and Republique.

Next door is Cartolina, an Italian-inspired beachside cafe and market  with a focus on pizza, sandwiches and coffee. There are Neapolitan-style pizzas from a state-of-the-art pizza oven, a takeaway counter and outdoor seating. The beverage program features classic coffee favorites as well as lavender and honey lattes, tonics, smoothies, and wellness shots.
