Ever wonder where unused food goes? Feeding the 5000 served 5,000 meals from food that would have been otherwise wasted. The event was created to bring awareness to food waste by serving a meal from reclaimed food. Bags of produce were given away and attendees enjoyed cooking demos as well as education on composting and proper division of trash. Held Thursday, May 4, in Pershing Square, Feeding the 5000 was organized by nonprofit Feedback, which campaigns to end food waste at every level of the food system. The event served food sourced by Food Forward and prepared by L.A. Kitchen, an organization that trains the underemployed for jobs and reclaims local, healthy food.
