Known for his sensuous and theatrical dance works, choreographer Robert Moses admits that telling (and no doubt retelling and retelling) fairy tales and fables to his children fueled Fable & Faith and The Cinderella Principle — two critically praised works to be performed by Robert Moses' Kin Dance Company. Fable & Faith is the centerpiece, described by one critic as “exploring imagination, creativity, identity and the current cultural climate through the metaphor of children's fables.” The dancers get help in that endeavor from the San Francisco Boys Chorus and playwright-actress Anna Galjour. Issues of family and fairy tales return in Moses' depiction of nontraditional family structures in The Cinderella Principle, which also involves collaboration with Galjour. With Moses' intelligent and engaging choreography and his ensemble of powerful dancers, this modern dance troupe has been a major player on the Bay Area dance scene since 1995. The San Francisco Chronicle again numbered Robert Moses' Kin Dance Company among San Francisco's top five dance companies. Now you can see why.
