Algorithms of Our Own connects the Feminist.AI community and our featured studio artists.
Algorithms of Our Own is a community event about beginnings, middles, and ends. The event sends off and honors the work of our featured artist who has graced our space over the past month, celebrating how they have produced work in the space and sharing how community has engaged with the work. Algorithms of Our Own is about community—for community that has no history with technology, but has ideas, and for people working in the tech community as researchers, artists or explorers. Algorithms of Our Own hopes to create a space for people to co-create their algorithmic futures together though AI projects, research, ideas and community. In keeping with Feminist.AI’s history, the primary goal of the event is to continue to explore the social and cultural implications of Artificial Intelligence.
We couldn’t be more honored to have had Sarah Ciston as our first featured artist. Being a part of, and working with Feminist.AI, she gracefully helped us figure out how to navigate community work, her work, and sharing that work with others. Her show, MODIFY THE LOSS, explores what it means to process code through bodies and machines—through three projects that use different lenses, ladymouth.wtf, inner(voice)over, and Modify the Loss, her work explores these communications codes as they move throughout these technologies and people.
During the celebration, Sarah will share artifacts that emerged from and were contributed to Modify the Loss, an analog, active, walkable, community space in the form of a gallery-sized labyrinth and artistic-research project that evolved over the month-long exhibition. Starting from the loss function, which in machine learning aims to minimize error so as to assure the machine behaves as intended, the labyrinth winds in and out to consider embodied forms of processing code and trauma—wayfinding for a queer processing language.
Join us for this opportunity to interact with and contribute to this evolving work and be part of the Feminist.AI community.
