Starting June 9th, LACMA, in collaboration with Loyola Marymount University's School of Film and Television and in celebration of the 50th anniversary of James Bond film franchise, launches its new exhibit “…Is James Bond.” The exhibit features the opening sequences for all 22 Bond films. Even better: free movies. Starting in July, LACMA (along with Film Independent) will be screening double Bond features on Thursday nights.

In anticipation for “…Is James Bond,” film critic and LA Weekly alum Elvis Mitchell picked his ten favorite Bond opening sequences. From Casino Royale to Live and Let Die, see what Bond classics make Mitchell's list.

10. Casino Royale (2006)

Chris Cornell croons the song “You Know My Name” in this first Bond film, starring the alluring Daniel Craig as everyone's favorite spy.

9. Die Another Day (2002)

Madonna sings the title track and stars in Die Another Day, Pierce Brosnan's final film as James Bond.

8. Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)

This was the first James Bond film to be made without longtime producer Albert R. Broccoli, who receives a dedication in the ending credits. Sheryl Crow performs the title song in this film about a media mogul attempting to start WW III.

7. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)

George Lazenby's only film as James Bond features a song titled “We Have All the Time in the World” by Louis Armstrong, which is often mistaken as the main song for the film. The real theme song is “On Her Majesty's Secret Service,” an instrumental by the John Barry Orchestra.

6. The World is Not Enough (1999)

Garbage performs the title song for this Bond film starring Pierce Brosnan.

5. Live and Let Die (1973)

Paul McCartney and Wings penned and sang the classic '70s track “Live and Let Die” for this film starring Roger Moore, who is known for his comic portrayal of 007.

4. Dr. No (1962)

Sean Connery originated the role of James Bond in Dr. No, the first Bond film ever made. The opening sequence is the first time the “James Bond Theme” by John Barry Orchestra would be heard by audiences. Although it has undergone some remixes, the song continues to be used in Bond films today.

3. You Only Live Twice (1967)

Nancy Sinatra sings the main song “You Only Live Once” in this Bond film, the last one to star Sean Connery.

2. From Russia with Love (1963)

Matt Monro sings the title song “From Russia with Love” in the second Bond film. Sean Connery reprises his iconic role.

1. Goldfinger (1964)

This is the second Bond film that Shirley Bassey sang the title track for, after Diamonds are Forever. Sean Connery stars in the film that Mike Myers parodied with his third Austin Power's film Goldmember.
